Hundelt Gets Double-Double as Guins Fall in Three at Loyola

Chicago -- Youngstown State freshman Marissa Hundelt notched her third career double-double in the Penguins' three-set loss (27-25, 25-20, 25-18) at Loyola on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gym.
Hundelt had 10 of YSU's 33 kills, and she also had 10 of the Penguins' 32 digs. Freshman Jenna Cavanaugh added eight blocks as the Penguins collected 10 as a team.
Mallory Curran had 11 kills and hit .625 to lead Loyola, which improved to 8-10 overall and 1-6 in Horizon League play.
A Dani Soubliere and Cavanaugh block gave the Penguins their largest lead of the first set at 16-12. YSU still led 21-19 on a Kapferer kill, but Loyola took a 23-22 lead on a Melissa Hastings kill. A Kapferer ace gave the Penguins a 24-23 advantage, but Loyola scored two straight points to have its own set point at 25-24. A Soubliere kill tied the score at 25-25, but a YSU service error and a Loyola ace gave the Ramblers the 27-25 win.
Loyola scored the first five points of the second set, and Cavanaugh was able to cut the deficit to 8-6 with a solo block. That was as close as the Guins would get as Loyola won 25-20.
A Hundelt kill gave the Penguins an early 4-2 lead in the third set, but Loyola scored eight straight points to take control en route to its 25-18 win.
Youngstown State will play at Valparaiso on Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern.
