
Shorthanded Guins Fall at Green Bay in Four Sets

Green Bay, Wis. -- Haley Kapferer had 11 kills, and two of her teammates posted career highs in kills as the Youngstown State volleyball team lost in four sets at Green Bay on Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins, playing without top attacker Marissa Hundelt because of an injury, defeated Green Bay 25-20 in the first set before dropping the next three 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.
Setter Dani Soubliere added a career-best nine kills, and middle blocker Nichele Johnson posted career highs with seven kills and four blocks. Kelsi Bitter matched her season high with seven kills, and Brittany Grove notched a season-best 12 digs.
Abbey Gitter had 15 kills, and Brittany Groth had 23 digs for Green Bay.
The first set had two lead changes and six ties, the final of which was at 14-14 when Carmen Leitermann had a solo block for Green Bay. The Penguins scored the next six points on Kapferer's serve, including two aces from the senior middle blocker. Green Bay got to within three twice before Tasha Reid put the match away with a kill.
The second set turned at 15-15 after five lead changes and 12 ties. Green Bay pulled ahead this time with three straight points to go ahead 18-15. The Penguins got within two twice and trailed just 21-19 after a Soubliere kill. Three straight kills gave the Phoenix set point, and Grove followed with a ball handling error.
Green Bay went up 9-2 in the third set on the way to a 25-16 win, and the Phoenix pulled away late in the fourth to win 25-17.
Youngstown State will return home to face Cleveland State on Friday at 7 p.m.
