Cedar Falls, Iowa -- The Youngstown State football team won its
sixth straight game and moved to 4-0 in the Gateway Conference with
a 29-20 win over Northern Iowa in the UNI Dome on Saturday.
Senior tailback Adrian Brown rushed 29 times for 147 yards and
two touchdowns to keep the Penguins in a first-place tie with
Illinois State. His 67-yard touchdown run with 3:59 left in the
fourth quarter iced the win.
After trailing 7-0, the Penguins scored 13 unanswered points on
a Brown one-yard run and two field goals by senior placekicker Mark
Griffith.
The Panthers took a 19-14 lead on a 30-yard pass from
quarterback Ryan Helming to Mike Furrey before YSU responded with a
36-yard touchdown run from freshman Ime Akpan to put YSU ahead,
19-14.
UNI went ahead 20-19 on a 26-yard touchdown pass, but the
Penguins took a 22-20 lead on Griffith's third field goal before
Brown's long run iced the game.
Youngstown State plays for what most likely will be the Gateway
Conference Championship against Illinois State next Saturday at
Stambaugh Stadium.
