Anthony Hunt reached 1,000 career points in just three seasons as a guard with the men’s basketball program.

For his career, he scored 1,012 points, dished out 325 assists, grabbed 308 rebounds and had 121 steals in 82 games.

From the field he was 323-of-738 (44.4 percent), from behind the 3-point line, he was 116-of-278 (41.7 percent) and from the free-throw line Hunt was 253-of-322 (78.5 percent). He played in 82 games, starting 81 in his Penguin career.

He was a three-time Mid-Continent Conference honoree. Hunt was named to the all-newcomer team as a sophomore, was a second-team all-conference pick as a junior and was a first-team all-league selection as a senior.

In 1997-98 during his senior season, Hunt averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in 27 of 29 contests and scored more than 20 points on four occasions.

For the year he scored 418 points, had 139 assists, grabbed 114 rebounds and had 44 steals in 29 games. He made 129-of-295 field-goal attempts (43.7 percent), was 50-of-114 from the behind the 3-point arc (43.9 percent) and was 110-of-139 (79.1 percent) from the free-throw line.

Hunt poured in 26 points in consecutive games in January. On Jan. 14 versus Buffalo he was 10-of-14 from field, making three 3-pointers and three free throws. Five days later at Western Illinois he again had 26 points making six field goals, including 5-of-6 3-pointers, and knocked down a season-best nine free throws. He had a 25-point performance vs. Oral Roberts while dishing out a season-best 12 assists. He scored 23 at Oral Roberts earlier in the season.

YSU advanced to the Mid-Con title game for the only time in school history in February 1998. The Penguins defeated UMKC and Oral Roberts before losing to Valparaiso.

In 1996-97, Hunt averaged 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest. He scored in double figures 18 times and had more than 20 four times.

For the year he scored 332 points, grabbed 109 rebounds and had 105 assists and 42 steals in 27 contests in starting 26 games. He was 105-of-245 (42.9 percent) from the field, 40-of-95 on 3-point attempts (42.1 percent) and 82-of-98 (83.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

He had a season-best 24 points at Central Florida, making 6-of-10 field-goal attempts and 10-of-12 free-throw attempts. He scored 23 at Chicago State and UMKC while finishing with 20 against Wright State.

In 1995-96, Hunt averaged 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He scored in double figures 11 times.

For the year, he scored 265 points, grabbed 85 rebounds and had 81 assists and 38 steals in 26 games. He made 89-of-198 (45 percent) field-goal attempts, was 26-of-69 (37.7 percent) from behind the 3-point arc and made 61-of-85 free-throw attempts.

He had a season-best 23 points on two occasions – at Northeastern Illinois and against UMKC. He dished out a season-high eight assists against Valpo.

Hunt earned his degree in criminal justice from YSU.

He is a research anaylst for Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. He is also a basketball official for the Illinois High School Association.

At Corie High School in Chicago, he was a two-time all-conference pick and was an all-city and all-area selection in 1994.

He has two daughters, Jordan and Jalin.
