Fabio Boateng, who was named Head Coach of the Youngstown State women's soccer program in December 2015, enters his second season at the helm of the Penguins.
Boateng, who has head coaching experience at two different universities, became the sixth head coach in program history.
Last season, Boateng guided Marissa Martin to a position change that produced impressive results. Martin, a defender for two seasons, led the team with seven goals and ranked second with 14 total points. She was also named All-Horizon League Second-Team. Her seven goals in a season rank tied for seventh on the single-season list.
Larsen Murvin, a defender, was named to the All-Freshman Team after appearing in 15 matches and recording two assists.
The Penguins scored 19 goals and added 18 assists, the fifth most in a single-season, for a total of 56 points.
Boateng spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Mississippi Valley State. In 2015, he led the Devilettes to regular-season SWAC championship with an 8-1-1 record and an overall mark of 13-7-2.
At MVSU, Boateng coached the SWAC Player of the Year and had six players named to the all-conference team. MVSU also led the nation with 3.86 goals per game, 3.09 assists per game, 10.82 points per game, total goals with 85 and total points with 238. The Devilettes also ranked second in the nation with 68 total assists.
Prior to MVSU, Boateng spent four years as the head coach at Lincoln University from 2010-13. He guided the Division II school to a program best 8-5-2 overall record in 2013 and gradually increased the team's win total from one in 2010 to eight in 2013.
Before Lincoln, Boateng served for two seasons as an assistant coach at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. At Converse, a NCAA Division II institution, he was instrumental in all of the program's operations, including recruiting, game planning, scouting and game-day managing. Converse earned its second all-conference honor under his guidance.
He also spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth from 2006-08.
From May 2004 to August 2006, Boateng served as an assistant coach for the men's soccer team and head women's soccer coach at the University of Ghana. While assisting the men, he became the first head coach of the women's program. The women were 23-5-2 and earned two goal medals (2004, 2006) at the Ghana University Sports Association Games, the equivalent of NCAA titles in that country.
Boateng holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in the study of religion from the University of Ghana; a Master's of Science in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and earned a second Master's degree in Business Administration in Risk Management.
