Dan Lipari is in his first season as Youngstown State's pitchingcoach and recruiting coordinator and his second season on the YSUstaff.
In his lone season at Youngstown State in 2009, Lipari workedprimarily with the pitching staff and catchers as a volunteerassistant. He helped implement the pitching program that saw twoPenguins hurlers sign professional contracts. Eric Marzec wasselected in the 30th round of the Major League Baseball AmateurDraft by the Milwaukee Brewers, and Aaron Swenson signed a freeagent contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
Marzec earned two championship rings in the minors, pitching forHelena Brewers and the Brewers affiliate in the Arizona League. Hewas honored by minorleaguebaseball.com as the top playoff pitcherin the Pioneer League for his performance with Helena. Swenson waspromoted to the Class A South Atlantic League midway through theyear.
Swenson earned second-team All-Horizon League honors whileMarzec was recognized as a second-team utility player for the thirdstraight season.
Lipari also assisted with coaching the outfielders,administrating the Youngstown State Baseball School, managing thefundraising efforts of the YSU Diamond Club and performing dailyoperations in the baseball office.
In the summer circuit, Lipari was the pitching coach for theBrainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods Summer CollegiateLeague the past two seasons. In 2010, the Lunkders' staff rankedsixth out of 16 teams in the league with a team ERA of 3.85.Starting pitchers Kyle Teague and Nick Anderson made the all-starteam, and the catcher that Lipari worked, Chadd Krist, with alsomade the all-star team. Lipari also coached Brandon Baumgartner andAaron Sapp to seven wins apiece, which ranked second in theleague.
Lipari was a three-year letterwinner at Morningside College inSioux City, Iowa, from 2006-08. As a senior, he appeared in 22games, which ranked second on the team, and helped lead Morningsideto the GPAC Tournament Championship. His 22 outings in 2008 alsoranks as the third most in school history for a single season.
After his playing days, Lipari was named the pitching coach forOmaha Creighton Prep Junior Varsity Legion Team in the summer of2009. Along with becoming a college coach, he also assisted inyouth baseball development in Sioux City.
Lipari earned his bachelor's degree in business administrationfrom Morningside in 2008.
