Tim Jackson started all 112 games in his four-year career with the YSU men’s basketball program. He is one of just four players in school history with more than 1,000 points and at least 800 rebounds.
Jackson, who ranks ninth in school history with 1,531 points, was a forward for the Guins from 1987-88 through 1990-91. His induction now means the top 13 scorers in school history are enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
For his consistent appearances in the starting lineup, he holds the school mark for career minutes (3,484). His 112 starts are also a school mark, while his 112 games played rank fourth.
At YSU, he averaged 13.7 points per game during his career, making 600 field goals and 331 free throws. He hauled down 810 career rebounds, a number which ranks fourth in school history while averaging eight per game. He finished with 52 blocked shots, the sixth most in school history.
Following his senior campaign he was named The Vindicator’s YSU Male Athlete of the Year in 1990-91. In his last year he scored 424 points averaging 15.1. He nearly averaged a double-double finishing with 256 rebounds, an average of 9.1.
He had 11 double-doubles, including a season-high 20 rebounds against UW-Milwaukee. His senior high in points scored was 25 against Akron. From the field he was 167-of-296 (56.4 percent) and was 90-of-122 from the free-throw line (73.8 percent). He also had 46 assists, 28 steals and 13 blocks.
Jackson had his best offensive season as a junior scoring 449 points, averaging 16 per contest. He had 289 total rebounds, averaging 10.3 rebounds. He scored in double figures 26 times and had 13 double-doubles. He had a career-high 33 points against St. Francis (Pa.) and a high 18 rebounds versus Valparaiso. He scored his 1,000th career point against the Red Flash.
For the year he was 173-of-340 from the field (50.9 percent) and 103-of-143 from the free-throw line (72 percent). He added 28 assists, 24 steals and 15 blocked shots.
As a sophomore, he scored 300 points, averaging 10.7 per game while grabbing a total of 189 rebounds (6.9 avg.). He scored in double figures 14 times, including a season-high 21 at Tennessee State. He had 22 assists, 14 steals and 10 blocks.
Jackson had a memorable freshman campaign. In 1987-88 he was named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s All-Freshman Team. He scored 358 points and grabbed 165 rebounds, averaging 12.7 and 5.9 per game. He scored in double figures 16 times, including 32 against Morehead State and 31 versus Eastern Kentucky. He had 18 steals, 14 blocks and 12 assists.
Jackson graduated from YSU with degree in Elementary Education. He came to YSU after a successful high-school career at Canton McKinley High School. He scored 1,032 points and had 650 rebounds.
Currently, he is a Wholesale Account Executive in the Consumer Finance Department for CIT Home Lending - a mortgage brokerage.
He resides in Phoenix, Ariz., with his wife Kim and their son Thomas.
