The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics is proud to announce the creation of Jack and Mary
Kay McFadden Scholarship beginning in 2012-13 to enhance the
YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
The Jack and Mary Kay McFadden Scholarship was established in
recognition by their children Mike, Larry, John, Patricia,
William and Paul. Jack and Mary Kay raised their children in a
loving home with all the opportunities to learn, grow and mature
into successful and productive adults. This scholarship will give a
deserving Youngstown State student-athlete a chance to have a
better opportunity thanks to the McFadden's
Paul was a placekicker at Youngstown State from 1980-83 and went
on to play in the HFL for the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles
and the Atlanta Falcons. He was enshrined in the YSU Athletics Hall
of Fame in 1993. He has worked at Youngstown State University in
some capacity since that time and is currently the President of the
YSU Foundation.
McFadden said the creation of this scholarship is something that
is special to his family.
"Like any family, as we look back to what was provided for us,
my sister, brothers and my affection and appreciation to our
parents has grown substantially over time," he said. "Mom and Dad
are at a point where there is nothing we can buy they to make them
happy. When we presented the scholarship to them during the
holidays this past December, their was not a dry eye in the
room. It is a great way to provide for generations of student
athletes, while honoring our parents in a very special way."
The McFadden's were born and raised in Cleveland,
Ohio. This scholarship was established by their children, and
daughters-in-law Joann, Chris, Jovi and Debbie, son-in-law Lance,
niece Samantha and her husband Brent, and their eight
grandchildren, as a lasting symbol of their love, affection and
appreciation to their parents for all they have provided.
Youngstown State Director of Athletic Development Joe Cassese
said the McFadden family has a special relationship with YSU
athletics and the school and that continues with the creation of
this scholarship endowment.
"As a former standout, YSU student-athlete and current President
of the YSU Foundation, Paul McFadden knows first hand the positive
impact a scholarship has on the lives of our current student
athletes," Cassese said. "It is always significant when a former
athlete and his family are able to contribute towards a scholarship
that will honor the legacy of their parents and loved ones. We are
extremely grateful to the McFadden siblings and family members.
Jack and Mary Kay should be proud."
