World Series Champion Gary Sheffield Highlights Successful 2026 YSU Baseball Golf Extravaganza

The Youngstown State baseball team wishes to thank all the participants who took part in the program's 2026 Golf Extravaganza featuring former World Series champion Gary Sheffield, which was held on Sunday and Monday at The Lake Club in Youngstown, Ohio.
"We are so very grateful for all who supported us at our 2026 YSU Baseball Golf Extravaganza," said YSU head coach Trevor Charpie. "Our special guest Gary Sheffield was amazing, and it was so fun learning and listening to his insights on baseball, leadership and life. We sincerely thank everyone who participated and supported our program – we are extremely excited to begin a new school year as we prepare for the upcoming 2027 season!"
The event saw a tremendous turnout once again as 30 foursomes and 120 players took to the course at The Lake Club. Golfers enjoyed food trucks and various games that were stationed at different holes throughout the course.
Sheffield, a nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star, highlighted the event, speaking at an exclusive dinner on Sunday evening and greeting fans and Penguin faithful before playing in Monday's golf outing.
After a brief weather delay on Monday morning, YSU players, coaches and staff members were able to connect with many familiar faces on a cool, comfortable day during the seventh annual event. The program's long-standing support was on full display once again as the field of golfers included current and former players as well as fans and supporters.
The winning team featured Vernon Cesta, Eric Carano, Michael Ray and Dillon Palmer while the second-place team included Matt Tomko, Bob Haseley, Jeff Suchora and PJ Quinn.
The Youngstown State baseball program would like to send a special thank you to the event committee featuring Leo Henry, Kevin Stefko, Andy Clutter, Bob Hannon and Jason Miller for their continued support and dedication to make this event a reality each year.
