Struthers, Ohio — The community support for Youngstown State's women's basketball program was on display again on Saturday as a sold-out group of 36 foursomes participated in the team's annual golf outing at Knoll Run. The 2026 edition was presented by Mike & Janet Murray.
Great conditions on the course in Struthers, Ohio, allowed for low scoring, and the event concluded mid-afternoon just before a line of storms arrived in the Mahoning Valley. The field teed off at 9 a.m., and golfers were treated to food, beverages, prizes and the opportunity to meet YSU's student-athletes and coaches.
At the buffet meal following golf, head coach Melissa Jackson and YSU President Bill Johnson spoke about how the program's successes on the court and in the classroom are benefited by the ongoing support from the community. The 12 ladies on YSU's roster then introduced themselves, along with the program's coaching staff.
Longtime supporter Frank Frattaroli gave a brief history of how the event began when the program's head coach in 2003, Tisha Hill, approached him about starting the outing. Hill attended the outing and spoke after Frattaroli, thanking him for his friendship and support of the program that extends more than two decades later.
Following introductions and comments, prizes were awarded for play on the course, and winners of the silent auction and 50/50 were announced. Adam Capretta's foursome won the men's division for the second straight year, carding a 16-under par score of 56. Bob Hannon's group won the mixed division with a score of 58, and Ann Marie Martin-Gatchel's team took the women's prize with a score of 62. All three divisions were decided by one stroke.
