Lansing, Mich. —? The Youngstown State bowling team's 2025-26 season came to an end on Saturday morning at the Lansing Regional as the Penguins fell 2-0 in an elimination match to North Carolina A&T at Royal Scot.
YSU's season ends with a 73-37 record following its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Youngstown State had higher scores on Saturday than it posted on Friday on the opening day of the Lansing Regional, but North Carolina also had a higher pace and won the traditional point 1,023-964 and the Baker point 961-917.
The Penguins were down 19 pins and had just two opens after five frames of the traditional point, but the Aggies extended their lead to 49 over the next three frames as they started to separate.
Liv Baskin led the Penguins with a 204 game from the third spot in the lineup, and Gianna Varano shot 200 to outscore the Aggies' leadoff bowler by 53 pins.
North Carolina A&T opened up a 58-pin lead after two games of the Baker pinball point, and faced a 623-564 deficit heading into game four. Looking for a similar outcome as Friday's match against Carroll when it shot 250 in game four, YSU started the fourth game against the Aggies with a spare and a string of three strikes to cut into the deficit. However, three straight splits and an open in the ninth frame followed, and YSU still trailed by 22 pins despite North Carolina A&T shooting just 132.
The Aggies had lane choice with the higher total and moved to the left lane, but they had four straight opens to game five as Youngstown State made another push. The Penguins had a pair of doubles in the first six frames, but their striking pace slowed as North Carolina A&T caught fire and threw the back seven. The Aggies finished with a 206 in game five despite their slow start, while YSU posted a 184.
