Youngstown, Ohio – Sophomore Kelsey Ogin fired a complete-game four-hitter and Selah Moyer hit two home runs to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a series-clinching 5-2 Senior Day win over Green Bay on Saturday morning at the Covelli Sports Complex.
Youngstown State improves to 26-15 overall and 9-3 in the Horizon League while Green Bay falls to 12-26 overall and 6-9 in league action.
Ogin, who picked up her seventh win of the season, faced just 27 batters with two strikeouts and just one walk.
Moyer went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in while senior Bree Kohler and freshman Leila Staszak had two hits apiece.
The Penguins and Phoenix battled through a scoreless tie for three innings before Green Bay broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth.
Youngstown State answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Moyer led off the frame with a solo home run to center field, and Kohler and Staszak each followed with singles.
Bella Meyer moved the runners to second and third on a ground out, and Kohler scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch.
Tai Turner delivered the go-ahead run with a single through the right side that plated pinch-runner Tatum Werley.
Sophomore Ayla Ray led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and Moyer belted her second home run of the game to give the Penguins a 5-2 lead.
Ogin retired the Phoenix in order to close out the seventh inning.
Youngstown State visits Kent State in a doubleheader, Tuesday, April 21, in Kent, Ohio.
