Indianapolis, Ind. – Youngstown State junior Tai Turner and freshman Kennedy Kimball swept the Horizon League weekly softball awards, the conference announced on Monday.
Turner was named the Under Armour #HLSB Player of the Week and Kimball earned the Under Armour #HLSB Pitcher of the Week.
Turner led the Penguins to a 3-2 record last week with a .467 batting average, five runs scored, two home runs, five RBIs, a .867 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.367 OPS.
She posted a hit in four of the five games and had three two-hit games. She went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs against Mt. St. Mary's and belted a home run in a 2-for-4 performance against Hampton.Â
For the season, Turner is batting .400 with a triple, two home runs and 12 runs batted in.
Kimball went 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched last week.Â
She picked up her first career victory with a four-hit, complete-game victory while striking out eight in a 9-1 win over Hampton.
Kimball struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed just five hits and two earned runs against Penn.
On the year, Kimball is 1-2 with a 2.58 ERA with 18 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .224.
Youngstown State faces Hampton in a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 3. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
