The Youngstown State men's golf team will resume the fall portion of its 2026-27 season on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a ninth-place finish in the River Run Country Club Collegiate hosted by Davidson on Sept. 21-22. Fifth-year senior Ryan Sam finished tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard at two under par overall with a three-round score of 214 (73-74-67) to collect his second top 10 finish in as many events to begin the season. Sam matched his season and career-low round with a five-under-par 67 in the third and final session at River Run Country Club.
The tournament field at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will feature 11 other schools including Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IU Indy, Malone, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Sam, Nolan Shilling, Jordan Kish, Bryar Moss and Rocco Turner. In addition, Nathan Miller, Michael Porter and Jack Sacriponte will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.
Kish, Miller, Sam and Turner competed in each of YSU's first two tournaments this fall while Moss, Porter and Sacriponte participated in one event. Shilling will be making his season debut on Monday.
Cleveland State's annual fall tournament is named after longtime CSU athletic administrator Tom Tontimonia. The tournament returned to Lakewood Country Club as its regular host site last season after the course completed a significant renovation project which restored the layout to reflect the original design of the property by A.W Tillinghast in 1924.
