Youngstown, Ohio – It was a very special Saturday morning inside Beeghly Natatorium as the Youngstown State Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving programs honored 16 seniors during the final day of their dual with IU Indianapolis.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Jacob Gramer, and Lorenz Beck placed first with a collective time of 1:27.60. The women's 200-medley relay squad of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Allison Ramirez Romero, and Orla Maccines placed second with a time of 1:46.21.
Olivia Sweetman placed first in the women's 200 free as she swam a time of 1:51.35, just edging out the second-place time of 1:51.54. Orla Maccines finished third with a time of 1:53.76. Pablo Santos led the men in their section of the 200 free with a time of 1:39.34.
Sweetman also won the women's 500 free, swimming a time of 5:01.29, six seconds quicker than the second-place time. Morgan Glass finished third with a time of 5:14.89. Seif Elbatal led YSU in the men's 500 free as he clocked a time of 4:39.17, finishing second.
Orla Maccines won the women's 50 fly as she clocked a time of 25.12. Jacob Gramer finished third in the men's 50 fly, clocking a time of 21.96.
Hannah Murray won the women's 100 IM as she swam a time of 59.22, beating the second-place time by two-tenths of a second. Adrian Andres Moreno finished third in the men's 100 IM with a time of 51.29.
Quinn Cynor finished first in the men's 100 backstroke, clocking a time of 48.36.
Elliot Elmore had a strong showing in the men's 50 backstroke, placing first with a time of 22.96. Chloe Moore led the Penguins in the women's 50 backstroke as she finished third with a time of 27.09.
Both of the top men's and women's 200-free relay teams placed second in their respective events. On the men's side, Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Reid Withey, and Lorenz Beck clocked a time of 1:22.54, just three-tenths of a second off the pace of the winning time. The women's team of Orla Maccines, Chloe Moore, Madelyn Mahoney, and Hannah Murray swam a collective time of 1:37.41 to secure their runner-up finish.
Zachary Lao and Rafael Serey-Cormier tied for second place in the men's three-meter diving event as they each scored 309.60.
James Slessor finished runner-up in the men's 50 breaststroke with a time of 24.91. he was followed by Dominic Panozzo, who placed third with a time of 25.87. Hannah Murray also finished third in the women's 50 breaststroke, clocking a time of 30.50.
Slessor also finished second in the men's 100 breaststroke as he swam a time of 54.56.
Allison Ramirez Romero was the runner-up finisher in the women's 100 fly as she swam a time of 56.44, just over one-tenth of a second slower than the winning time. Jacob Gramer finished third in the men's 100 fly with a time of 49.14.
Hanna Held placed third in the women's one-meter diving event as she accumulated a score of 240.83.
Owynn Lafollette swam to a third-place finish in the women's 400 IM, clocking a time of 4:54.49.
Madelyn Mahoney finished third in the women's 100 free with a time of 54.00. Lorenz Beck also finished third in the men's 100 free, clocking a time of 46.36.
The Penguins will now turn their attention towards the upcoming Horizon League Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. The four-day meet will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and run through Saturday, Feb. 21.
