Supporters Enjoy Great Day at YSU’s 22nd Annual Women’s Basketball Golf Outing

Struthers, Ohio — Friends and supporters of Youngstown State's women's basketball program enjoyed beautiful weather and ideal conditions at Knoll Run on Saturday at the team's 22nd annual golf outing. The outing was presented by YSN Sports and Mike & Janet Murray as title sponsors.

A sold-out field of 35 foursomes teed off at 9 a.m. at the course in Struthers, Ohio, and golfers were treated to food, beverages, prizes and the opportunity to meet YSU's student-athletes and coaches. A buffet lunch followed the event, and head coach Melissa Jackson and YSU President Bill Johnson spoke about the pride, optimism and tremendous support surrounding the program. The 12 ladies on YSU's roster then introduced themselves, along with the program's coaching staff.

Following introductions and comments, prizes were awarded for play on the course, and winners of the silent auction and 50/50 were announced. It was a record-setting day for the program in number of tickets sold in the silent auction and the sizable 50/50 pot.

Adam Capretta's foursome carded the lowest score with a 55, which was 17-under par, to win the men's division. The winners of the women's and mixed divisions both shot 62, with Karen Peters' group claiming the women's section and President Johnson's team winning the mixed division in a scorecard playoff. The full list of winners is below.

Jackson concluded the event by expressing gratitude to the entire golf committee and especially three key couples - Jack Colona and Sperry Rongone, Frank and Joyce Frattaroli, and Mike and Janet Murray, who have been instrumental in the event's longevity. She also thanked the title sponsors, and Walrus Subs and Kaleel Brothers for donating food.
