As Youngstown State's bowling team continues to experience a new and much-appreciated increase in attention from supporters in the Mahoning Valley and beyond, its members celebrated with its inner circle on Saturday night in the Beeghly Center Coaches Court.
The program gave one final salute to its six seniors - Jade Cote, Ellie Drescher, Madison Doseck, Lyndsay Ennis, Kirsten Moore and Madyson Marx - with a video tribute and gifts as junior Hannah Miller, sophomore Amanda Granata and freshman Kara Beissel led the effort. Head Coach Doug Kuberski expressed a great amount of gratitude to each of the nine student-athletes on the team and their families, assistant coach Mackenzie Olesky and the bowling program's support staff within the YSU Athletics Department.
Kuberski also recognized Don Hogue, who is vital to the program's success through his knowledge and preparation of equipment. Hogue, a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and the Canadian National Team, said he received many messages from bowlers with whom he has relationships when YSU won the national title. Hogue said YSU's brand is recognized and respected in the bowling world, and he is proud to be affiliated with it.
The program's annual awards were also presented at the banquet, and three bowlers combined to win the six awards. Cote received awards for holding the program's highest average, posting the highest game (289) and posting the highest makeable spare percentage. Granata led the team in single-pin spare percentage, and she was also named the team's most-improved bowler. Ennis earned the Gramsy Award, named after 2023-24 senior Megan Grams, for being a supportive teammate and embodying the culture of the program.
