Youngstown, Ohio – Senior Elyssa Imler and sophomore Lydia Wilkerson each hit home runs, but the Youngstown State softball team (11-37) fell to Kent State (10-34), 13-3, on Tuesday at the Covelli Sports Complex.
The Golden Flashes jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two-and-a-half innings before the Penguins got on the board. Wilkerson belted her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, to lead off the bottom of the third inning.
Freshman Ayla Ray, who went 2-for-4, doubled and sophomore Macy Littler singled and Ray scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Kent State extended its lead to 7-2 with a run in the top of fifth and another in the top of the sixth.
Imler crushed her second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the Penguins scoring.
Youngstown State hosts Oakland in a three-game Horizon League series, April 25-26, at the Covelli Sports Complex.
