Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State (22-6-1) scored eight runs in the first inning en route to a 12-1 victory over the Youngstown State softball team (4-22) on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Grace Pilaczynski recorded a run-scoring single to account for the Penguins run in the top of the second inning.
Juniors Kennedy Dean and Ashlyn Bishop and sophomore Lydia Wilkerson also collected hits for the Penguins.
After the Penguins cut the Buckeyes' lead to 8-1 in the top of the second, Ohio State answered with three more in the third and one more run in the fourth inning.
Youngstown State returns to Horizon League action with a three-game series against Detroit Mercy, March 21-22. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at Buysse Ballpark in Detroit, Mich.
