Kish Leads Penguins at World Golf Village Collegiate in Shortened Spring Opener

Freshman Jordan Kish earned a top 20 individual finish to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team at the World Golf Village Collegiate, which concluded on Tuesday from the World Golf Village's King and Bear Course in St. Augustine, Fla.
YSU's first event of the spring season was shortened to 36 holes after Monday's second round was suspended due to darkness. Tournament officials made the decision to finish the second session on Sunday and cancel the scheduled third round of play.
The Penguins finished with a two-round team total of 629 to place 16th as a team. YSU recorded a 319 in the opening round before concluding the event with a 310 in the second session.
Kish finished tied for 18th with a two-round score of 150 (78-72) to collect his second top 25 finish of the campaign. The freshman's even-par 72 in the second round featured nine pars and four birdies as he fired a three-under-par 33 on the front nine.
Ryan Sam recorded a two-round total of 158 (82-76). The junior's second-round 76 included 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 10 as he shot an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Jake Ryan finished with a two-round 160 (80-80) while Nolan Shilling concluded the event with a 162 (80-82) while playing as an individual. Jacob Sylak turned in a two-round score of 165 (79-86) while Michael Porter also carded a two-round total of 165 (83-82).
North Florida claimed the tournament title by 25 shots at one over par with a two-round team total of 577. Butler finished as the runner-up with a 602 while Embry-Riddle and Bellarmine each posted a 604 to tie for third.
North Florida's Brett Schell earned medalist honors by seven strokes at eight under par with a two-round score of 136 (70-66).
Youngstown State will continue the spring portion of its 2024-25 season on March 7-8 with the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder Creek, Nev.
