For the second consecutive week to start the season, the Youngstown State women's lacrosse team is represented in the Mid-American Conference weekly awards, the MAC announced Tuesday.
Sophomore Lena Cox has been named Co-MAC Offensive Player of the Week for her performance during the Penguins 19-10 victory over Saint Francis on Sunday.
Cox had a team-high six points, courtesy of four goals, which tied a team-high during the game, as well as two assists.
This is the first all-conference weekly honor that Cox has received. She was a member of the 2024 All-MAC Freshman Team.
This marks just the second time in program history that the Penguins have boasted MAC Players of the Week in back-to-back weeks, as Katie Grottenthaler (Co-Offensive Player of the Week) and Tara McHugh (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored by the MAC last week. The only other time this occurred was during the 2022 season, when Natalie Calandra-Ryan was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Apr. 26, and then she followed that up by being named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on May 3, as she shared the conference's spotlight during the week with teammate Savannah Clarke, who was named the conference's defensive player of the week.
