After a record-breaking performance last weekend vs. Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State women's lacrosse junior Mackenzie Flannigan has garnered Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
During last Saturday's contest against UDM, Flannigan tied a season-high with seven ground balls while also causing a career-high five turnovers and even dishing out her first assist of the season in YSU's 15-7 victory over the Titans. She also broke the single-season program ground balls record of 42, with her total now standing at 44 this campaign.
This marks the second time this season that Flannigan has been named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, as she also received the honor on Mar. 12 after her performance vs. Marquette.
She becomes the first player in program history to be named the conference's defensive player of the week twice in the same season.
Flannigan and the Penguins will return to action tomorrow when they play Duquesne in a road matchup at Rooney Field. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m.
