Akron, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs continued a busy few weeks as they battled against strong competition at the four-day Zippy Invite inside Ocasek Natatorium, breaking multiple school records.
Thursday Highlights
- The Penguin men had two groups finish inside the top five of the 200-medley relay, as the crew of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer finished runners-up with a school-record time of 1:26.85, while Elliot Elmore, Adrian Andres Moreno, Valer Kennedy, and Noah Smith finished fourth with a collective time of 1:28.66.
- The men's 800-free relay squad of Quinn Cynor, Lorenz Beck, Jacob Gramer, and Valer Kennedy placed second with a school-record time of 6:31.76.
- The women's 800-free relay squad of Orla Maccines, Hannah Murray, Jordan Sarubbi, and Olivia Sweetman placed sixth as they clocked a time of 7:27.40.
- The women's 200-medley relay group of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Ximena Young, and Orla Maccines placed 14th with a time of 1:45.39.
Friday Highlights
- Olivia Sweetman came very close to placing first in the women's 500 free, finishing runner-up with a time of 4:52.89, which was four-tenths of a second slower than the winning time.
- Like Sweetman in the 500 free, Quinn Cynor was less than a second off the pace of winning the men's 200 IM, placing second with a school-record time of 1:46.97. James Slessor finished eighth in the event with a time of 1:52.92. Jameson Cooke won the B Final with a time of 1:52.76, good enough for ninth overall.
- The men's 400-medley relay team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer finished third with a collective time of 3:11.99, which is a new school record. The crew of Elliot Elmore, Adrian Andres Moreno, Valer Kennedy, and Reid Withey finished fifth with a time of 3:16.81.
- Jacob Gramer led the Penguin men in the 50 free with a fifth-place finish, clocking a time of 20.13. Noah Smith finished sixth with a time of 20.15, while Lorenz Beck won the B Final with a time of 20.23, finishing ninth overall.
- Poyraz San Askin placed seventh in the men's 500 free with a time of 4:33.98.
- The women's 400-medley relay squad of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Orla Maccines, and Olivia Sweetman finished eighth with a collective time of 3:48.65.
Saturday Highlights
- The YSU men dominated the 200 free, as Quinn Cynor placed first with a time of 1:35.34, and Pablo Santos finished runner-up with a time of 1:38.18. Valer Kennedy placed sixth with a time of 1:40.31.
- Rafael Serey-Comier won the men's three-meter dive with a score of 288.15. Ben Edwardson finished runner-up with a score of 257.00, while Zachary Lao was fourth (246.15) and Andrew Miller was fifth (229.05).
- The Penguins had four competitors in the A Final of the men's 100 breaststroke, as James Slessor finished second with a school-record time of 53.42, Adrian Andres Moreno placed third with a time of 54.30, Dominic Panozzo finished seventh with a time of 55.88, and Jude Carlton finished eighth, clocking a time of 56.27.
- Orla Maccines placed third in the women's 100 fly, clocking a school-record time of 54.44.
- The men's 200-free relay squad of Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenz Beck, and Noah Smith finished third as they combined for a school-record time of 1:20.02. Also performing well was the group of Reid Withey, Pablo Santos, Adrian Andres Moreno, and Valer Kennedy, as they finished fifth with a time of 1:22.06.
- Lorenz Beck and Jacob Gramer put forth strong efforts in the men's 100 fly, as Beck placed third with a time of 47.45, and Gramer finished in fourth place with a time of 47.99.
- Jameson Cooke led the Penguin men in the 400 IM, finishing fourth with a time of 4:04.94. Trent Wakefield finished seventh with a time of 4:07.89, while Poyraz San Askin finished second in the B Final with a time of 4:07.75, placing 10th overall.
- Olivia Sweetman finished eighth in the women's 200 free with a time of 1:52.53.
- The women's 200-free relay team of Madelyn Mahoney, Orla Maccines, Hannah Murray, and Chloe Moore finished eighth with a school-record time of 1:34.90.
Sunday Highlights
- The men had three swimmers finish in the top 10 of the 1650 free, as Poyraz San Askin finished runner-up with a time of 15:48.42, Seif Elbatal was sixth with a time of 16:15.31, and Ethan Woycehoski placed 10th, clocking a time of 16:41.06.
- Quinn Cynor finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:45.86, while Valer Kennedy finished third (1:46.68), Lorenz Beck finished fifth (1:49.31), and Jameson Cooke was eighth (1:54.21).
- Noah Smith led the men with a second-place finish in the 100 free as he clocked a time of 44.26. Also swimming strongly was Jacob Gramer, who finished fourth with a time of 44.61, and Reid Withey, who finished ninth with a time of 45.69.
- The men's 400-free relay team of Quinn Cynor, Noah Smith, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer placed second with a school-record time of 2:56.43.
- The Penguin women placed two swimmers inside the top 10 in the 1650 free, led by Olivia Sweetman, who finished third with a time of 17:07.53, and Derin Donmez, who placed sixth with a time of 17:25.40.
- The men placed six-seven-eight in the 200 breaststroke. Dominic Panozzo led the way with a sixth-place finish in 2:00.71, while Adrian Andres Moreno was seventh with a time of 2:01.33, and James Slessor placed eighth with a time of 2:01.47.
- The women's 400-free relay team of Olivia Sweetman, Hannah Murray, Orla Maccines, and Chloe Moore finished seventh with a time of 3:29.54.
- Orla Maccines was eighth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.28.
- Pablo Santos won the B Final of the men's 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.27, finishing ninth overall.
- Lara Lilic finished fourth in the B Final of the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.98, finishing 12th overall.
- Hannah Murray finished sixth in the B Final of the women's 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.62, which placed her 14th overall.
- Derin Donmez clocked a time of 2:11.13 in the B Final of the women's 200 fly, good enough for an eighth-place finish in that final and 16th-place finish overall.
