Led by first-team All-American quarterback Beau Brungard the Youngstown State football team landed five players on the SI.com FCS Central All-America team the organization announced on Monday.
Brungard was joined by third-team selections wide receiver Max Tomczak, defensive end Michael Wells, offensive tackle Desmeal Leigh and all-purpose player Ky "Flash" Wilson. Four of the five Penguins were named first-team All-MVFC while Leigh earned second-team all-league accolades.
Brungard, one of three finalists for the 2025 Walter Payton Award, was one of two quarterbacks named first team as he was joined by North Dakota State's Cole Payton. Payton is also a finalist of the Walter Payton Award.
In the 2025 regular season, Brungard rushed for 1,378 yards on 225 carries with 24 touchdowns while completing 254-of-368 passes for 2,917 yards and 23 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He also added a receiving touchdown. In MVFC games, he rushed for 852 yards on 155 carries with 16 touchdowns while completing 180-of-256 passes for 2,1621 yards and 19 TDs.
Tomczak was a two-time All-MVFC pick during his decorated career. In 2025, he caught 64 passes for 916 yards and five touchdowns. Wells had a breakout campaign in 2025 recording 47 total tackles with 24 solos to go along with 13 TFLs and 8.5 sacks while adding seven QB hurries. Wilson set the school single-season record for kickoff return yardage with 877 on 30 returns and finished with an average of 29.2 per return. Leigh started every game at left tackle and played every snap in nine contests.
