Sarasota, Fla. – Distance swimmers for the Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs took their talents to the warm waters of Nathan Benderson Park Saturday morning as they competed in the CSCAA Open Water National Championships.
Poyraz San Askin led the Penguin men in their 5K race with a time of 54:52.0, placing 13th. David Grant and Ethan Woycehoski swam very closely with each other, as Grant finished 44th with a time of 58:11.2, while Woycehoski placed 46th with a time of 58:25.4. Quinn Harman finished 57th, clocking a time of 58:56.7.
The Penguin women were led by Hannah Murray in their 5K race, as she swam a time of 1:00:49.5, finishing 37th. Olivia Sweetman placed 41st with a time of 1:00:54.3, followed closely by Nehir Guler, who finished 42nd with a time of 1:01:01.0. Derin Donmez finished 86th with a time of 1:04:23.3.
The Penguins will be back in action on Jan. 9-10 when YSU is back in action for their final regular season meet, a two-day event inside Beeghly Natatorium against Horizon League foe IU Indianapolis.
