Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs put together another day of strong performances on Day 2 of the YSU Invite, including two new school records.
The Penguins swept diving victories for the second consecutive day. Hanna Held placed first in the women's one-meter dive, winning with a score of 279.40, followed by Haley Conklin in second place (264.45) and Natalie Weissman in third place (254.90). The three 'Guins were the lone participants in the event.
Rafael Serey-Cormier claimed victory in the men's three-meter dive, winning with a score of 317.80. Zachary Lao finished runner-up with a score of 309.70.
The men's 200-medley relay team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Jacob Gramer, and Lorenz Beck placed first with a pool and school-record time of 1:27.54.
The Penguin men captured the top five spots in the 400 IM, led by Jameson Cooke, who placed first with a time of 4:02.71. He was followed by Trent Wakefield in second place with a time of 4:05.94, and Poyraz San Askin in third place with a time of 4:12.41.
Orla Maccines set a new school record in the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 55.22 as she won the event. She was followed by teammate Allison Ramirez Romero, who was runner-up with a time of 56.14.
Quinn Cynor won the men's section of the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.84. Fellow Penguin Valer Kennedy finished in third place as he clocked a time of 48.93.
YSU claimed the top four spots in the women's 200 free, as Olivia Sweetman won the event with a pool-record time of 1:50.55, while Jordan Sarubbi placed second (1:54.67) and Madelyn Mahoney finished third (1:55.58).
Lorenz Beck won the men's 200 free with a time of 1:39.19, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
The Penguin women swept the top four spots in the 100 breaststroke, led by Adrian Andres-Moreno, who won with a time of 54.79. James Slessor finished in second place with a time of 54.90, while Dominic Panozzo finished third with a time of 56.15.
The 800-free relay squads each set pool records to cap off the night. The women's crew of Olivia Sweetman, Jordan Sarubbi, Derin Donmez, and Hannah Murray swam a collective time of 7:33.81 as they claimed victory, while the men's team of Quinn Cynor, Valer Kennedy, Jacob Gramer, and Lorenz Beck won with a pool-record time of 6:35.35.
Derin Donmez led the Penguin women with a second-place finish in the 400 IM, clocking a time of 4:35.82. Emily Aten finished third with a time of 4:37.38.
Helen Bernardi finished second in the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.94. She was followed closely by teammate Hannah Murray, who was third with a time of 1:05.11.
Chloe Moore placed third for the Penguin women in the 100 backstroke as she swam a time of 57.83.
Elliot Elmore won the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.44, followed by Pablo Santos, who finished runner-up with a time of 49.00.
The YSU women's 200-medley relay squad of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Allison Ramirez Romero, and Orla Maccines placed third with a time of 1:44.75.
The Penguins will wrap up the YSU Invite tomorrow morning inside Beeghly Natatorium. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m.
