The Youngstown State men's and women's cross-country programs were each represented in this week's USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings.
This marks a milestone for the Penguins, as it is the first time that both programs have been ranked regionally simultaneously.
The men's team checked in at 11th, down three spots from their eighth-place ranking last week. YSU remains the top-ranked Horizon League team in the region, ahead of Oakland, which is ranked 12th. The Penguin men are the fifth-ranked team in the state of Ohio, trailing Ohio State (sixth), Cincinnati (eighth), Toledo (ninth), and Akron (10th).
Wisconsin is the top-ranked men's team in the Great Lakes Region.
The women's team is ranked 13th this week, which is their first appearance in the Great Lakes polls since 2014. YSU was the lone women's Horizon League squad to appear in this week's poll. The Penguin women are the seventh-ranked Ohio team this week, trailing Ohio University (fourth), Toledo (fifth), Cincinnati (seventh), Ohio State (eighth), Bowling Green (ninth), and Miami (Ohio) (11th).
Notre Dame is the top-ranked women's team in the Great Lakes Region.
The Penguins will wrap up regular-season action next Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Pre-National Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri. The Penguins will race at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, MO.
