The Youngstown State baseball team will hold its annual Fall World Series on Oct. 29-31 at Eastwood Field in Niles to close fall practice in preparation for the 2026 season.
The Penguins will draft teams for their three-game intrasquad series on Oct. 27 before playing one simulated game each day on Oct. 29-31. Youngstown State played a pair of exhibition games against outside competition this fall, facing Bryant & Stratton College on Oct. 4 and Cuyahoga Community College on Oct. 12 at Eastwood Field.
YSU, which is under the direction of second-year head coach Trevor Charpie, returns 16 letterwinners and six starters from last year's team that finished 15-42 overall and 11-19 in Horizon League play. The program's 2026 roster features a large group of 22 newcomers which includes 16 transfers and six freshmen.
Returning starters Nathan Beckley, Garrett Cutting, Brayden Kuriger, Brady Shannon and Jay Wrona each return in 2026 for their second season at YSU. Beckley and Kuriger were each named to the 2025 Horizon League All-Tournament Team while Wrona was selected to the 2025 Horizon League All-Freshman Team.
On the mound, right-hander Brandon Mikos returns for his fifth season as a Penguin after winning five games on the mound as a redshirt junior in 2025. Left-hander Braden Gebhardt also returns for his fourth season at YSU after making 18 relief appearances and one start on the mound as a junior in 2025. He was named to both the Horizon League All-Academic Team and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Baseball Team for the second straight season in 2025.
