Bowling Has Solid First Day in Texas

Arlington, Texas — Youngstown State's bowling team posted consistent scores throughout the day and won a pair of matches on Friday to begin the 2025 Prairie View A&M Invitational at The ITRC.
The Penguins shot between 999 and 1,040 in each of their five Baker sets and finished with a total pinfall of 5,115 and a 204.6 average. YSU was one of three teams in the talented 12-team field to score at least 990 in all five matches, but a huge set evaded the Penguins on Friday and kept them in the middle of the standings in sixth place.
Jacksonville State topped the field with a round of 5,467, and four teams posted scores between 5,265 and 5,225. YSU is well within striking distance of the top group with six matches of qualifying remaining over Saturday and Sunday.
YSU's first match was its closest of the day, and Nebraska won 1,032-1,010 in a 22-pin decision. The Penguins' final four matches all had margins of at least 80, and YSU went 2-2 in those contests as two opponents had sets over 1,100.
Vanderbilt won the second match 1,120-1,039, and YSU's first win was 999-881 over Texas Southern. Sam Houston then fired a 1,141 against the Penguins to win the fourth match 1,141-1,040, and YSU beat the host Panthers 1,027-865 to finish the round.
Youngstown State will bowl five matches in the traditional format on Saturday beginning at 10:25 a.m. Eastern. All matches from the tournament are being streamed on BowlTV.
