Youngstown State senior bowler Jade Cote earned positions on the 2025 Team Canada and 2025 Youth Team Canada by her performances at the national trials this week in Montreal.
Cote earned a silver medal in the youth competition as the second-highest finisher in the category at the trials, which took place from Jan. 6-9 at Laurentian Lanes. She was fifth overall among the field of 37 competitors vying for a spot on the national team.
The senior from Farnham, Quebec, fired a 1,257 over six games during the opening shift on Monday to establish herself near the top of the leaderboard early in fourth place. Cote was 11th in the second shift, but she bounced back by posting the top block in the field for the third shift. She had a 1,360 set to outscore every female by at least 51 pins, and she closed the session with scores of 258 and 267.
The field was trimmed by 50% after the third shift, and Cote kept pace with a 1,350 set that included a 277 game in round four. She had the third-highest total at that juncture, and she finished fifth after bowling in one final shift that featured the top 12 bowlers from the trials.
Cote is already a veteran on the international landscape bowling for Team Canada. She earned bronze and sliver medals as a junior team member in 2023, and she was a member of the adult and youth teams in 2024.
Cote is the second Penguin this week to earn a spot on a national team. Kirsten Moore was selected for Team USA on Tuesday.
