Householder had eight kills in 15 swings in the set, and Machin came off the bench to have four kills in nine attempts. YSU separated midway through with a 7-2 run that put it up 18-13, and a 6-1 run ended the set.
In the third, the Penguins led 14-13 on a Householder kill, and the score was 16-16 following a kill by Dayan Malave. The Phoenix scored nine of the next 12 points to win the set 25-19, and the visitors pulled away behind Best's serve in the fourth after the margin was 13-10.
Youngstown State will play three Horizon League road matches next week, starting with a contest at Robert Morris on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Penguins will also play at Northern Kentucky next Friday and Saturday.
