Former Youngstown State shortstop Trey Law has signed a professional contract to play with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official MLB Partner League.
Law played in 169 games and made 143 starts for the Penguins from 2020-24. The Camp Hill, Pa., native was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team and the ABCA/Rawlings East All-Region Second Team in 2023 after batting .362 and slugging .452 with 80 hits, 17 doubles, one home run and 29 RBIs. He also recorded 50 runs scored, 24 walks, 100 total bases, a .437 on-base percentage and 10 stolen bases while starting 52 games at shortstop.
Law led the Horizon League in hits in 2023 while ranking second in batting average, fifth in doubles and on-base percentage and sixth in runs scored. Law's 80 hits tied for the third most in a season in program history and were the most by a Penguin since 2010 while his 50 runs scored tied for the eighth most in a single season in school history. Law's .362 batting average was the highest mark by a Penguin since 2015. He hit safely in 43 of his final 49 games after putting together a career-best 15-game hitting streak from April 15 to May 18. Law was named Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week on Feb. 28, 2023.
Law concluded his YSU career with another banner season as a redshirt senior in 2024. He was named to the All-Horizon League First Team after batting .350 and slugging .439 with 86 hits, 15 doubles, two triples, one home run and 26 RBIs. Law also recorded 48 runs scored, 29 walks, 108 total bases, a .421 on-base percentage and eight stolen bases while starting all 60 games at shortstop. He set a new single-season school record with 60 games played and 60 games started.
Law's 86 hits in 2024 rank as the second most in a season in program history and are the most by a Penguin since John Koehnlein set the school record with 108 in 2007. Law is the only player in YSU history to have at least 80 hits in two different seasons, and his 166 hits in 2023-24 are the most by any Penguin in consecutive seasons. Law's 246 at bats in 2024 also rank as the second most in a season in school history.
