Men’s Golf Set to Compete at Highland Meadows Intercollegiate

The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its spring schedule on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Highland Meadows Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a ninth-place finish in The Jewell hosted by Northern Kentucky on April 6-7. Fifth-year senior Cole Christman led the way with a season-best 23rd-place performance. Christman had a three-round total of 219 (71-73-75) over the 54 holes of play.
The Highland Meadows Intercollegiate will mark YSU's final tournament before the 2024 Horizon League Golf Championships, which will take place April 20-22 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
The tournament field at the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate will feature 12 other schools including Bowling Green, Bucknell, Illinois, Indian Hills, Miami Ohio, Minnesota, Niagara, North Dakota State, Ohio, Saint Francis, Saint Thomas and Toledo.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Split tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 for Monday's opening round are scheduled from 9-10:50 a.m. while Tuesday's final session will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,719 yards and par is 72. Live scoring through Golf Genius will be available throughout the tournament.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Christman, Justin Atkinson, Dean Austalosh, Jacob Sylak and Ryan Sam. In addition, Michael Porter will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
Atkinson and Austalosh have competed in each of the nine events YSU has played thus far in 2023-24. Sylak has participated in eight tournaments while Christman, Porter and Sam have each competed in six events.
