Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State senior bowlers Madyson Marx and Kirsten Moore have each been voted to the Conference USA All-Academic Team for their combined excellence on and off the lanes. The conference office announced the six-person team on Friday.
Nominees for the All-Academic team were required to have a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in 75 percent of scheduled matches. Marx and Moore were selected from a list of 20 nominees.
Marx is a senior criminal justice major from Maplewood, Minn., who holds an impressive 3.944 GPA. She is a five-time member of YSU's President's List, she has been on the Dean's List in all seven of her semesters at YSU. An Academic All-District selection in 2022-23 from College Sports Communicators, she is also a three-time member of the NTCA and Southland All-Academic teams.
Athletically, Marks ranks 13th in the country in individual scoring average at 20.841 and is seventh in strike percentage. She was named the MVP and the individual champion of the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic in November, and she had another individual top-10 finish placing seventh at the Mid-Winter Invitational in February. Marx was named an NTCA Honorable Mention All-American and All-Southland First Team in 2022-23, and she was selected for the NTCA All-Freshman Team in 2020-21.
Moore is working toward her master's degree in English after already graduating Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's in English last May. She has had straight A's throughout her collegiate career, and she is a five-time member of the President's List and Dean's List. Moore, a native of Tallmadge, Ohio, was an Academic All-District pick by College Sports Communicators in 2022-23, and she is a three-time member of the NTCA and Southland All-Academic teams.
On the lanes, Moore has the fourth-best traditional format average in the country at 21.465 pins per frame. She has been named the MVP and individual champion at two tournaments, the season-opening Penguin Classic and the Mid-Winter Invitational last month, and she had another top-10 finish at the PVAMU Invitational. Moore has set program records this season for highest overall scoring average and Baker average at a tournament at the Hawk Classic, and she broke previous school standards for highest five-game set and individual average in the traditional format at the Mid-Winter Invitational. Last season, she was named an NTCA Honorable Mention All-American.
The Penguin pair was joined on the Conference USA All-Academic Team by Jacksonville State graduate students Rebecca Hagerman and Maranda Pattison, Louisiana Tech senior Allie Leiendecker, and Vanderbilt sophomore Victoria Varano.
