Kent, Ohio - Kent State scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a run-scoring triple that lifted the Golden Flashes to a 2-1 win over the Youngstown State softball team on Wednesday afternoon at Devine Diamond.

The Penguins fall to 11-10 overall while the Golden Flashes improve to 11-8.

Senior Sara Fessler led off the game with a solo home run, her second of the year, to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

Kent State tied the game in the bottom half of the frame on an unearned run.

Senior Sophie Howell turned in another quality start throwing a complete game with six strikeouts and allowing just five hits.

Youngstown State returns to league play with a three-game series against Detroit Mercy, March 16-17, at the YSU Softball Complex.
