Guins Land Four on MVFC All-Academic Team; Three on First Team

Youngstown State placed four student-athletes on the Missouri Valley Football Conference's All-Academic squad, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Earning first-team honors were QB Beau Brungard, OL David Metzler and LB Devin Johnson while PK Andrew Lastovka was a second-team selection.
YSU tied with North Dakota State placing three members on the first team. It marks the first time since 2007 that the Penguins placed three on the All-Academic first team.
Metzler is a three-time honoree earning first team accolades in 2024 and 2023 and second-team honors in 2022. On Sunday, he will be the featured student speaker at YSU's undergraduate commencement ceremony. He's just the ninth Penguin to be a three-time selection and the first since Armand Dellovade in 2018.
Johnson, Brungard and Lastovka are all first-time Academic selections.

Started all 12 games at linebacker…was also a key member of special teams coverage units…finished with 51 total tackles (34 solos)…had three pass breakups and 3.5 TFLs…in MVFC play, had 37 tackles, including 23 solos…collected a season-best eight tackles vs. North Dakota (five solos)…had six stops against South Dakota and Valparaiso…had four-or-more tackles in eight games…entered the season with 54 total tackles…played in 50 career games.
OL David Metzler, YSU, 6-5, 320, Senior, 3.95 Pre-Med
Played in eight games…started twice…played in 44 games during career and started 33 times…named first-team Academic All-MVFC and CSC Academic All-District in 2023…was a second-team Academic All-MVFC pick and CSC Academic All-District honoree in 2022.
QB Beau Brungard, YSU, 6-0, 215, So., 3.95 Business Administration
First-team All-MVFC selection as an All-Purpose player…passed for 2,141 yards while rushing for 998 yards…completed 209-of-314 passes and 12 scores…had 159 rushes and scored 16 touchdowns…finished with 3,191 total offensive yards…in MVFC games, completed 143-of-218 passes for seven TDs and 1,438 yards…had 117 carries for 678 yards and 12 TDs…three-time MVFC Offensive Player of the Week (Valparaiso, North Dakota, UNI)…had more than 100 yards rushing in four games and was over 59 on eight occasions…had three rushing scores against Southern Illinois, North Dakota and Valparaiso…had two scores vs. UNI and Missouri State…passed for over 200 yards four times…season-high was 266 at SIU.
PK Andrew Lastovka, YSU, 5-8, 170, So., 3.94 Marketing
Made 12-of-17 field goal attempts and was 39-of-39 on PATs…finished with 75 points…in MVFC contests, made eight field goals and 25 PATs…made a career-long 51-yard kick against UNI…converted two field goals against South Dakota State and North Dakota…served as kickoff specialist for the first time in 2024.
