Penguins Set to Host Cleveland State on Senior Day

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs return home to the Beeghly Natatorium for a Senior Day dual with Cleveland State.
Last Time Out
The Penguins will be back in the pool for the second-consecutive week, as they traveled to New York last weekend for a dual with Niagara.
The Penguin women collected 12 top-three finishes during the meet. Miriam Frass finished second in the 1000 free as she swam a time of 10:35.79. She was followed by her teammate Olivia Sweetman, who clocked a time of 10:38.54. Oliwia Kaniak put together a good performance in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:06.07, good enough for a second-place finish.
The women finished two-three-four in four events. Oliwia Kaniak's time of 2:24.47 was good enough for a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke, Macy Wang finished third with a time of 2:33.15, and Eloise Fisher finished closely behind Wang in fourth place, swimming a time of 2:34.20. The Penguins also had great performances in the 500 free as well, where they had a second-place finish from Miriam Frass (5:15.56), third-place finish from Hailey Clark (5:18.22), and fourth-place finish from Morgan Glass (5:21.31). Three Penguins in the top four were also duplicated in the 100 butterfly, as Natalia Andres finished second as she swam a time of 1:01.13, Allison Ramirez Romero finished third with a time of 1:02.28, and Zoe Gallagher rounded out Penguins in the top four as she finished with a time of 1:04.23. The final individual swimming event of the day, the 200 IM, was very good for the Youngstown State women as well. Macy Wang finished runner-up in this event as she clocked a time of 2:14.41, Sydnie Collins finished third as she swam a time of 2:17.71, and Eloise Fisher finished behind her in fourth as she clocked a time of 2:21.02.
The women fell to the Purple Eagles in the overall team score, which was 186-72.
Poyraz San Askin highlighted the performances for the men during the meet, as his winning time of 9:43.99 in the 1000 free set a new pool record, while also setting a new personal-best time for San Askin in the event. Gavin Webb finished runner-up to San Askin, swimming a time of 9:56.25.
Webb and San Askin flip-flopped in the 500 free, as this time it was Webb finishing first, clocking a time of 4:42.57, and his counterpart in San Askin finishing second, swimming a time of 4:47.83.
The Penguins had two men finish in the top three in the 100 butterfly, as Jacob Gramer won the event with a time of 49.97, and Lorenz Beck finished third, as he finished in 52.04, just seven-hundredths of a second behind Gramer.
James Slessor won the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 57.17, just seven-hundredths of a second ahead of second place. Another win on the day came from Lorenz Beck, who finished first in the 200 butterfly, as he finished in 1:57.74.
The men fell to Niagara in the overall team score of 154-108.
Scouting Cleveland State
The Cleveland State men have won in each of the two duals they have competed in this season, defeating Valparaiso 240-54 on Sep. 28, and they also defeated Niagara 107-98 in a dual on Oct. 11.
The Cleveland State women have won one dual thus far this season, as they also defeated Valparaiso on Sep. 28, taking down the Beacons 238-54.
The Vikings men are competing in their first meet since Oct. 12 when they participated in the Clarion Fall Classic. The Vikings women last competed on Oct. 18 in a dual with Eastern Michigan, a meet that they lost 188-110.

The Penguins will stay home next week as they will host Saint Francis next Saturday, Nov. 9, in a dual at the Beeghly Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
