Orlando, Fla. — Youngstown State's bowling team won all three of its matches on Sunday and jumped to fifth in the final standings on Sunday at the Destination Orlando event.
The Penguins were seventh heading into the day, and a 3-0 day helped them climb to fifth for the final standings.
"We faced odd situations with certain pairs and sequencing on Saturday, but we felt we were close overall and felt good about making some adjustments and finishing strong," said Youngstown State head coach Doug Kuberski. "Great teams find a way to hang tough through adversity and grow from it, and I feel like we did a solid job of embracing that perspective today and finished strong."
"We have some little things to work on over the next two weeks, and I sense we are excited to put in solid preparation to be our best selves for our next tournament in Kenosha."
The Penguins beat Bryant 1,011-853 as all 22 teams in the field bowled one standard Baker match on Sunday morning to finish qualifying. YSU remained seventh in the standings, and it was pitted against Sacred Heart to start the best-of-seven Baker bracket.
Youngstown State began bracket play by sweeping the Pioneers by an average of 24 pins per game, winning 179-140, 182-181, 233-191 and 203-189. The Penguins followed that up with a 4-1 victory over Stephen F. Austin. The teams split the first two games, and YSU won the final three 189-177, 191-166 and 212-203. Anchor Jade Cote doubled in the 10th in game five to close out the win.
Youngstown State's next tournament will be the SFA Ladyjack Invite in Kenosha, Wis., on Nov. 8-10.
