
Penguins Stay in Northeast Ohio This Weekend to Compete in the Akron Zips Classic

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will be back in action for the third-consecutive week as will participate in the Akron Zips Classic on Oct. 11-12 at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium.
Last Time Out
The Penguins traveled to Horizon League foe Oakland for a dual last weekend with the Golden Grizzlies.
The women were led by Miriam Frass who captured four individual victories during the meet with wins in multiple freestyle events (100 free- 51.60), 200 free- 1:51.35), 500 free (4:57.66), and 1650 free- 16:53.92). The time clocked by Frass in the 1650 free was more than 17 seconds faster than the second-place finisher in the event. Oliwia Kaniak, who was named Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week last week, won three events for the second-straight meet, as she took home first place in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.08, 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.33, and 200 breaststroke as she swam a time of 2:22.98. Olivia Sweetman captured the other victory for the Penguin women during the meet, as she won the 500 free, swimming a time of 5:08.17 in the event.
The women fell by an overall team score of 365-197.
The men were victorious in seven events during the dual. Jacob Gramer and James Slessor each won two events. Gramer took home victories in the 100 free as he swam a winning time of 46.14, and he also finished first in the 100 butterfly, as he put together a time of 49.39. Slessor captured a victory in the 50 breaststroke after swimming a time of 25.15, and also the 100 breaststroke, as he clocked in a time of 54.43. Other Penguin victories were by Elliot Elmore, who won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 23.33, which was just six one-hundredths of a second than the second-place finisher, and the 400 free relay team of Rares Druga, Jacob Gramer, Gavin Redden, and Darren Laing picked up a victory, as their collective time of 3:03.64 was just under two-tenths of a second quicker than the second-place time.
The men fell by an overall team score of 357-201.
Competing Teams
The three men's teams competing will be Denison, Xavier, and Youngstown State.
The four women's teams competing will be Akron, Denison, Xavier, and Youngstown State.
