Dynes Sets Freshman Blocks Mark
Freshman Gabe Dynes has been a tremendous rim protector this season for the Penguins. Dynes, who set a career-high with six blocks against Wright State on Jan. 12, broke the YSU freshman blocks record of 39 after collecting three at Oakland on Jan. 17. He now has 42 blocks on the year. Dynes currently ranks seventh on the YSU single-season blocks list and is just the fourth player in school history to record at least 40 blocks in a season. He leads the Horizon League in total blocks and 2.2 blocks per game overall. Dynes is also averaging 3.1 blocks per game in league play.
Thompson Turnin UpÂ
Youngstown State fifth-year senior Brett Thompson has turned up his offensive production since being inserted into the starting lineup 14 games ago. Since that time, Youngstown State owns a record of 10-4. Thompson has been impressive against Horizon League opponents averaging a team-best 16.8 points, 4.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. Against the league, Thompson is shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from 3-point range.
