Abbie Householder reached double digits in kills for her sixth straight match as the Youngstown State volleyball team fell 3-0 to Wright State on Tuesday evening. The set scores at Beeghly Center were 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.
Householder finished with a match-best 11 kills on 25 swings, and Dayan Malave had an efficient seven kills in 12 attempts.
The Penguins were competitive for the majority of the match, but Wright State went on a prolonged run over the first and second sets behind setter Lauren Yacobucci's serve.
Youngstown State trailed just 16-13 in the opening set following an attack error, and Megan Alder's kill gave Wright State a sideout. Yacobucci served the final eight points of the first set and the first six of the second to give Wright State a 1-0 lead in the match and a six-point head start in the second set. YSU closed to within 6-4, but that was as close as it would get.
Wright State also scored the first four points of the third set, but that ended up being the largest margin in the set. The Penguins caught the Raiders at six on a Malave kill, and the score was tied four additional times in the set. THe final tie came at 23-23 on a Wright State attack error, but Yacobucci had a kill from the front row to give the Raiders a match point opportunity that they converted.
Wright State hit .278 in the match, and the Raiders had nine aces.
Josi Borum led the Penguins with 15 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double, and Isidora Sisic finished with a team-high 13 digs. Malave finished with a team-best three blocks.
Youngstown State will continue its three-match homestand on Friday by hosting Green Bay at 6 p.m.
