Penguins Host Ninth Annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational This Weekend

The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Saturday and Sunday when it plays host to the ninth annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off another strong performance at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational last weekend. As a team, YSU finished tied for third with a three-round score of 888, which ranks as the second-lowest 54-hole performance in program history.
Madie Smithco earned medalist honors for the second time in her career with a three-round score of 210 (67-71-72). The senior's three-round 210 ranks as the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history, and her career-low, five-under-par 67 in the opening session is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history.
Youngstown State is hosting the Roseann Schwartz Invitational for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons. The tournament was not held in 2020-21 as the Penguins were held out of the competition during the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently in 2022-23, the Penguins finished with a two-round team total of 585 to win their home tournament by 24 strokes. YSU's two-round 585 is tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole performance in program history.
The tournament field for this season's event will feature seven other schools including Bucknell, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Indiana State, Niagara, Northern Kentucky and Saint Francis.
The 36-hole tournament will be played on Mill Creek Park's North Course and admission for fans is free. The teams will play single rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Tee times for Saturday's first round are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. while Sunday's final round will begin at 9 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,088 yards and par is 72. Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Smithco, Lizzie Saur, Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Chaela Barnett and Titita Loudtragulngam. In addition, Kelly Hutton and Adena Rugola will be competing as individuals.

The event is named in honor of Roseann Schwartz, who was YSU's women's golf coach from 1996 until 2013. Schwartz led the Penguins to 33 tournament victories and two Horizon League titles during her tenure. She was inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.
