The Youngstown State baseball program wishes to thank all the participants who took part in the team's 2023 Golf Extravaganza featuring Charles Nagy, which was held on Monday at The Lake Club in Poland, Ohio.
"We are so blessed to have such great support from our community," said YSU head coach Dan Bertolini. "We want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event the success it was. Charles Nagy and Bruce Drennan were amazing guests, and we were so fortunate to have two great men help us raise money for Youngstown State."
The event saw a tremendous turnout as 30 foursomes and 120 players took to the course. Golfers enjoyed food trucks, a massage station and various games that were stationed at different holes throughout the course.
Former MLB All-Star and Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame inductee Charles Nagy highlighted the event, speaking at an exclusive dinner on Sunday evening and taking part in the golf outing on Monday. Nagy played for the Cleveland Guardians from 1990-2002 before finishing his career with the San Diego Padres in 2003. He was named an MLB All-Star in 1992, 1996 and 1999. Nagy finished his career with 129 wins, 1,242 strikeouts and a 4.51 ERA. He helped lead the Guardians to the World Series in 1995 and 1997, and he was inducted into the Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame in 2007. Nagy served as the pitching coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2011-13 and the Los Angeles Angels from 2016-18.
Cleveland media personality Bruce Drennan was also in attendance. Drennan was the host of the daily afternoon sports talk show "Drennan Live" on the regional sports network Bally Sports Great Lakes. He is also a former MLB and NBA announcer and sports radio personality.
Despite a few afternoon showers, YSU players, coaches and staff members were able to connect with many familiar faces during the fourth annual event. The program's long-standing support was on full display once again as the field of golfers included former players and coaches as well as fans and supporters. The winning team from Koncrete Dezign included Jim DiMuzio, Griffin Todd, John Doughton and Jim McDowell.
The YSU baseball program would like to send a special thank you to Leo Henry and The Chestnut Land Company for their continued support and hard work to make this event a reality each year.
The YSU baseball program would also like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the event.
- Home Run Sponsor: The Muransky Companies
- Triple Sponsors: Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods, Ned Hyland
- Double Sponsors: Francis Industries, Johnson Controls, Window World, PI&I Motor Express, Koncrete Dezign, Congressman Bill Johnson, Joe Rich
