Youngstown State senior wide receiver Bryce Oliver has been named a preseason third-team FCS All-American by Phil Steele, the publication announced. He was also among 11 Penguins named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Conference squad.
Oliver was joined by Darius Cooper of Tarleton State and MJ Wright of Fordham on the third-team. Three receivers were named to the first, second and third-team squads. Last year, Oliver was a first-team All-MVFC selection after making 59 receptions for 821 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 10 touchdowns were the most receiving touchdowns by a Penguin since 1983. In his career, has 18 touchdown receptions in his career tying a school record at the FCS level.
Oliver was also a first-team preseason All-MVFC pick by Phil Steele along with standout defensive end Dylan Wudke. Other Penguins named to the preseason All-MVFC squad were offensive lineman Jaison Williams (second team), long snapper Sam Merryman (second team), offensive line Aidan Parker (second team), tight end/fullback Jake Benio (second team), defensive lineman Chris Fitzgerald (third team), linebacker Greg Benton (fourth team), defensive back Jordan Trowers (fourth team) and wide receiver Max Tomczak (fourth team).
The Penguins open fall camp on Monday morning at Stambaugh Stadium. The 2023 season opener is slated for August 31 vs. Valparaiso.
