Youngstown State senior third baseman Braeden O'Shaughnessy has been named the Nike® Horizon League Batter of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

O'Shaughnessy batted .462 and slugged 1.000 with six hits including four doubles and a home run in 13 at bats while leading the Penguins to the three-game series sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne this past weekend. The Poland, Ohio, native also recorded nine RBIs, four runs scored, two walks, 13 total bases and a .533 on-base percentage.

O'Shaughnessy started the week by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored in YSU's 9-4 series-opening win at Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday. He went 1-for-5 with a walk and a three-run double in a 12-3 series-clinching victory on Saturday. The senior infielder closed the weekend by going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored in YSU's 14-10 win in the series finale on Sunday.

O'Shaughnessy is batting .303 and slugging .476 with 12 doubles, six home runs, 32 RBIs and 37 runs scored over 44 games played thus far in 2023. He ranks sixth in the Horizon League with 56 hits and 10th with 32 RBIs and 37 runs scored. O'Shaughnessy is batting .367 and slugging .612 with 36 hits and 25 RBIs over 23 games in Horizon League play.

O'Shaughnessy, who was named First-Team All-Horizon League in 2022, earns weekly recognition from the league for the first time in his career. He becomes the third Penguin this season to garner a weekly award. On Feb. 28, Trey Law was named Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week and Travis Perry was selected as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week.

O'Shaughnessy has helped lead Youngstown State to its first seven-game winning streak since the 2005 season. The Penguins will go for their eighth straight victory in a non-conference contest against Bowling Green on Tuesday. First pitch at Eastwood Field is slated for 5 p.m.
