Youngstown State redshirt sophomore Jillian Jakse and graduate student Megan Turner have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team for 2022-23.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 7.
Jakse was named to the 2023 Horizon League All-Academic Team and carries a 4.0 grade-point average in civil engineering. She appeared in 47 games in 2023 and scored 13 runs with six doubles and 21 runs batted in.
During the 2021 season, Jakse was named All-Horizon League First-Team and the Horizon League Freshman of the Year while batting .343 with five home runs, 13 doubles, and 39 runs batted in.
Turner, who has a 4.0 graduate school grade-point average in business leadership and was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, completed her undergraduate degree with a 3.9 GPA in accounting and finance. She batted .317 with four doubles, six home runs and 20 runs batted in against Horizon League foes in 2023.
Jakse and Turner are the first Youngstown State players to earn academic all-district since Sarah Dowd in 2017.
