Padraig O’Shaughnessy Named CSC Academic All-District

Youngstown State senior first baseman Padraig O'Shaughnessy has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team for 2022-23.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 7.
O'Shaughnessy becomes the first YSU baseball player to earn academic all-district honors since Phillip Glasser and Jon Snyder in 2021. He is just the third Penguin since 2013 to earn academic all-district recognition. O'Shaughnessy has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team each of the last two seasons. The Poland, Ohio, native maintains a 3.67 GPA in the Master of Business Administration program. He finished with a 3.83 undergraduate GPA as a business administration major at YSU.
O'Shaughnessy is batting .268 and slugging .503 with 13 doubles, one triple, nine home runs and a team-high 49 RBIs through the first 50 games of the 2023 season. He ranks second in the Horizon League with 35 walks, fifth with 49 RBIs and eighth with nine home runs. He also leads the league and ranks 33rd nationally with six sacrifice flies. O'Shaughnessy's six sacrifice flies are tied for the second most in a season in program history, and his 49 RBIs rank as the ninth most in a single season in school history.
