Penguins Play Host to YSU Spring Invitational on Friday

The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue its spring schedule on Friday when it plays host to the YSU Spring Invitational at Youngstown Country Club in Youngstown, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a third-place finish at NKU's The Julie on March 28. YSU's two-round team total of 599 is tied for the seventh-lowest 36-hole performance in program history.
Madie Smithco birdied the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors for the first time in her career. The Cranberry Township, Pa., native matched her career-low round with an even-par 71 in each session for a career-best two-round score of 142. The junior's two-round 142 is tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in program history. For her performance, Smithco was named Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week on March 30.
The tournament field at the YSU Spring Invitational will also feature Cleveland State and Saint Francis U. The teams will play 18 holes on Friday in the one-day event with tee times beginning at 1:30 p.m. Each team will have a six-player lineup with the lowest four scores counted. The course will play approximately 5,850 yards and par is 71. There will be no live scoring, and results will be posted following the conclusion of play.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's six-player lineup will feature Puthita Khuanrudee, Smithco, Titita Loudtragulngam, Lizzie Saur, Christina Lewis and Danae Rugola. In addition, Chaela Barnett and Adena Rugola will be competing as individuals.
Loudtragulngam, Danae Rugola, Saur and Smithco have competed in each of the nine events that YSU has played this season. Khuanrudee will be participating in her ninth event of the campaign while Barnett and Adena Rugola will each be competing their sixth tournament. Lewis will be taking part in her fifth competition of the 2022-23 season.
