Abby Liber has signed a grant in aid to join the Youngstown State women's basketball program as a transfer from Saint Louis University, YSU head women's basketball coach John Barnes announced on Thursday.
Liber is a 6-foot guard from Avon, Ohio, who will have three years of eligibility remaining for her career as a Penguin.
"I'm so excited to add Abby to our YSU family," Barnes said. "We've known Abby for a long time and she comes from a great family and program at Avon High School."
"Abby's size and athleticism fill our biggest need this offseason. She can play multiple positions and is a very hard worker. She's outstanding in the classroom and will be a great representative of YSU women's basketball both on and off the court. We're happy to bring her back home to Northeast Ohio!"
Liber appeared in eight games as a true freshman in 2022-23 for Saint Louis. One of those appearances was in the NCAA Tournament against Tennessee as the Billikens won the Atlantic 10 Tournament and earned the conference's automatic bid.
At Avon High School, Liber broke the school's career scoring record with 1,139 points. She was named Lorain County Miss Basketball and a Second-Team All-Ohioan at the Division I level as a senior when she averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.4 assists and 1.0 blocks. Additionally, Liber was twice named the Lorain County Player of Year, and she was a two-time Northeast Lakes All-District First Team honoree and a three-time All-Southwestern Conference First Team selection in her high school career.
Liber is the third student-athlete to sign to join Youngstown State's women's basketball program for next season. Previously, high school seniors Amya McLeod and Bella Samz each signed a National Letter of Intent in the fall.
