Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Youngstown State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to IUPUI on Friday afternoon at the IUPUI Softball Complex. The Penguins lost 8-2 and 2-1.
Youngstown State falls to 19-19 overall and 7-5 in the Horizon League while the Jaguars improve to 12-23 overall and 8-7 in the league.
In the opener, the Jaguars scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Down 1-0, a bases-loaded walk to Megan Turner tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.
After IUPUI's big inning, Turner drove in Hailey Niederkohr, who doubled, with the Penguins second run.
In the nightcap, the Jaguars scored twice in the third and staved off a Penguins rally in the seventh inning.
Junior Sara Fessler drove in Hailey Roach, who doubled, with the Penguins' lone run.
Youngstown State and IUPUI close out the series, Saturday, April 15, at 12 p.m.
